With a passion for shaping champions, Shea Goessman, our Hitting Coach, brings nearly 7 years of coaching experience to the plate. Shea's coaching journey is marked by outstanding achievements and a unique approach to player development.
Notable Achievements:
One of the pinnacles of my career was securing back-to-back KCAC Conference Championships in 2022 and 2023. Those victories stand as a testament to the dedication and hard work of my teams.
Coaching Philosophy:
My coaching philosophy is simple yet profound. I believe in taking a player's natural abilities and honing them to make each athlete more efficient and effective. No two players are the same, which is why I tailor my approach to suit each individual's unique strengths.
Motivation and Inspiration:
Motivation for me begins with unwavering work ethic and self-confidence. I instill in my players the belief that confidence breeds success, and they must leave no room for doubt in their abilities.
Memorable Moments:
Coaching has given me countless memorable moments, but one that stands out is sweeping Avila University – a field where I once coached with my late father. It was a poignant reminder of the profound impact of the game and the cherished memories it creates.
Skill Development Approach:
My approach to skill development is to evaluate a player's strengths and natural movements. I then focus on making them more athletic and joyful in their pursuits. But remember, the mental game and IQ are just as important as physical skills.
Unique Interests:
Beyond the baseball diamond, I'm an avid sports card collector and trader. I also stand out as a Green Bay Packers fan, a rare find in Chicago sports territory.
Fun Fact:
Christmas Day holds a special place in my heart, as it's also my birthday – a day that celebrates giving, and I certainly give my all to the game and my players.
